Michael Ireland has participated in the creative process for over forty years beginning with his studies at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Under the direction of master instructor Irving Shapiro, he began to explore the effects of light and color through transparent watercolor. He soon developed a passion for the medium that continued throughout his life and career. Today Michael is a nationally recognized painter as well as an accomplished creative director and graphic designer.

Michael’s painting style and technique challenges the scale and format associated with traditional transparent watercolor resulting in some of his recent works measuring up to over twenty feet in length. This process and approach has led to his artwork being placed in public and private collections throughout the country.

Affiliations and memberships include National Watercolor Society, The Society for the Arts in Healthcare and Chicago Artist Coalition

Also, Michael will be leading a workshop in October at The Peninsula School of Art in Door County.leaves

August 5th Meeting and Demo @ Oak Brook Public Library
Aug 5 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Bill began his professional career as an art director and designer for the stage, film and television. Over the years he nurtured his love of watercolor painting and studied with the late master Irving Shapiro, AWS. of the American Academy of Art. Bartelt at first applied his skills as a painter in service to his design work, developing watercolor renderings as scenic designs.
Gradually he began showing his work as pure art, and along the way MGM tapped Bartelt to provide Minnie Driver’s watercolor paintings for her film “Return to Me.” Since then, his paintings have been seen in a number of other films, and have also found an audience among avid collectors.
Join us at The Oak Brook Public Library for IWS members’ meetings for socializing, painting demonstrations by nationally recognized artists and educational lectures on materials and all things watercolor. The Oak Brook Public Library located on 31st Street, just west of York Road.
